Visit to the CPO
Today, we travelled via bus to the Jack Singer concert hall. We had the opportunity to watch the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra practice. We sat there and listened to them play for about 2 hours and then we took a break to go have lunch and use the facilities. Once the practice was completed, we had the privilege to walk backstage and met a musician named Kyle, who was the tympanist. We then headed to the 3rd floor and looked down at the stage from the balconies; it was the best part of the day.

What I learned today?
ReplyDeleteWhat an orchestra practising looks like
What was cool today?
The clarinet player
This made me think...
How the players stay on time with one another
Today could've been better if...
The performance was shorter
- Amanda, Karlen, Tim
What I learned today?
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to sleep through a concert
What was cool today...
How the Orchestra practices.
This made me think...
How the the whole Orchestra stays synchronized.
1. How does orchestra practise
ReplyDelete2. All the solo performances
3. How the musicians in the orchestra perfectly timed the notes
4. If it was less lengthy and more interactive
Sanchit and Kanishka
1. i learned that even when the orchestra practices, most of them can go on for a long time with out looking at, or having a music sheet.
ReplyDelete2.I thought that the roof and walls of the building were very cool.
3. I wonder How the composers motion had to to do with the way the orchestra played.
4. Today would have been better if we did another or other activities with concert instead of just watching the orchestra practice.

1. I learned that some people do not understand how an orchestra works and that I might not want to audition for the CPO in the future, since it is so lengthy. (T-T)
ReplyDelete2. I thought the building, especially the upper balcony was cool, and that there was no snow downtown.
3. I wonder how come the concertmaster is almost always a boy. (-.-)
4.It would have been better if we didn't had to sit there for so long and had a few more breaks. (>o<)
