Friday April 30

Today we went to Chuck 'e' Cheese's for a math inquiry. We made predictions prior to going about the correlation between the time it takes to spend a set amount of tokens and the number of tickets won. After we all started at the same time, we played games to win tickets. We then entered our authentic data to a spreadsheet and created a scatterplot comparing Time and The Number of Tickets Won.
After Chuck 'e' Cheese's we went to Village Square Leisure Centre for swimming in the wave pool, the splash area and the huge water slide.

This ended our Choose Your Own Adventure Trip. Thanks to everyone who made this week a great week!!

Visit to the CPO

Today, we travelled via bus to the Jack Singer concert hall. We had the opportunity to watch the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra practice. We sat there and listened to them play for about 2 hours and then we took a break to go have lunch and use the facilities. Once the practice was completed, we had the privilege to walk backstage and met a musician named Kyle, who was the tympanist. We then headed to the 3rd floor and looked down at the stage from the balconies; it was the best part of the day.

Rock-climbing and How to Train Your Dragon

Yesterday, we went to Strongholds, a rock-climbing facility. We were debriefed on how to put the harness on, how to belay (a technique for holding the ropes for your partner) and how to rock-climb safely. Afterwards, we tested our skills and climbed different walls, some were definitely harder than others! We spent two hours at Strongholds and had a lot of fun learning how to climb. Then, we got onto the bus and made our way to the Chinook Theatre to watch How to Train Your Dragon in IMAX. We waited for a while in the arcade and some people even bought tokens to play the games. We then went to the concession stand and bought popcorn and pop. We proceeded into the theatre and watched How To Train Your Dragon, which was a very cute and interesting movie. At around 3:30, the bus came and we made our way back to school.

Reflection Questions:
What was cool about today?
What made you think today?
What other historical groups have treated another group in the same way that the Vikings treated the dragons?

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - Jubilee Art Day

Jubilee Art Studio

We started off by arriving at the studio by bus. We were then led by the Jubilee art representatives on an art walk. We saw some very unique abstract art e.g. a piece of art made out of old books!
We took a 15 minute break.
After the break, we started to work on our own abstract art pieces.
On an 11 by 14 inch canvas, we created our own personal textures, painted them and then followed instructions to complete the assigned tasks. 3 quarters through the project we had a 45 minute lunch break. We then completed our projects. After critiquing them, we arranged them in a collage and took a grand picture.
After the picture, the representatives gave us a gift bag and then we went off to the bus which was waiting out side the Jubilee Auditorium.
